C'était compter sans sur la capacité de la Fédération française de football à nous offrir un nouveau rebondissement. Les Bleus ont refusé de s'entraîner ce dimanchje 20 juin entraînant la démission de Jean-Louis Valentin, directeur général délégué de la FFF. La séance d'entraînement avait commencé par une altercation entre Patrice Evra et le préparateur physique Robert Duverne, alors que les joueurs allaient à la rencontre des supporters pour la première fois. Le préparateur physique aurait fini par bousculer le capitaine avant d'être calmé par Raymond Domenech. Puis Evra est parti saluer le public tandis que Robert Duverne, furieux, jetait son chronomètre à l'autre bout du terrain. Jean-Louis Valentin, vêtu d'un jean et d'un survêtement aux couleurs de l'équipe de France, a alors remonté le terrain en s'écriant: "J'ai honte, je quitte immédiatement l'Afrique du Sud pour Paris". Quelques secondes plus tard, interrogé par les journalistes, il a déclaré: "Je suis écoeuré, dégoûté, je quitte mes fonctions, ce qui s'est passé est un scandale pour la Fédération, pour l'équipe de France et pour le pays tout entier. Ils ne veulent pas s'entraîner, c'est inacceptable". Les joueurs ont alors regagné leur bus avec Domenech, laisant tout le staff au bord du terrain. Puis le sélectionneur est ressorti, le pas lourd, pour lire un communiqué rédigé par les joueurs. "Tous les joueurs de l'équipe de France sans exception souhaitent affirmer leur opposition à la décision prise par la Fédération Française de Football d'exclure Nicolas Anelka", est-il écrit. La staff abandonné sur place "Nous regrettons l'incident qui s'est produit à la mi-temps du match France-Mexique, nous regrettons encore plus la divulgation d'un événement qui n'appartient qu'au groupe et inhérent à la vie d'une équipe de haut niveau", indiquent les joueurs. "A la demande du groupe, le joueur mis en cause a engagé une tentative de dialogue. Nous regrettons que sa démarche ait été volontairement ignorée". "De son côté, la FFF n'a a aucun moment tenté de protéger le groupe", accuse le communiqué des Bleus: "Elle a pris une décision sans consulter l'ensemble des joueurs, uniquement sur la base des faits rapportés par la presse. En conséquence, et pour marquer leur opposition à l'attitude adoptée par les plus hautes instances, l'ensemble des joueurs a décidé de ne pas participer à la séance programmée aujourd'hui". "Nous sommes conscients de nos responsabilités", indiquent cependant les joueurs, "celles de porter les couleurs de notre pays, également celles que nous avons à l'égard de nos supporteurs, des éducateurs, des bénévoles et des innombrables enfants qui ont les Bleus pour modèles". "Nous n'oublions rien de nos devoirs. Nous ferons tout individuellement et bien sûr sur le plan collectif pour que la France mardi retrouve son honneur par une performance enfin positive", conclut le texte, signé "les joueurs de l'équipe de France". Les joueurs sont alors partis en laissant le staff sur place. Quelques minutes plus tard, des voitures de l'hôtel sont venues raccompagnés les membres de l'Equipe de France abandonnés.
